Welcome to the start of another school year! There are lots of exciting changes happening this year at Kempsville and I'd love to share a few of them with you.
The first change is me...over the summer, I was appointed to replace Mrs. Farnsworth as the GRT here at Kempsville. Mrs. Farnsworth hasn't gone too far, she is still in the building but has taken on a new role in the building as the School Improvement Specialist. I come to you from Kellam where I spent the last 10 years in the Social Studies department. Most recently, I served as one of the collaborative teachers in the Sophomore cluster and the AP Human Geography teacher. I am a life-long Virginia Beach resident, proud wife of a Virginia Beach firefighter, and mom to two elementary-aged kids. I am incredibly excited to begin the next chapter in my teaching career here at Kempsville!
Another exciting change for Kempsville is that we are in the process of planning for a new academy for VBCPS. Kempsville alum, Ms. Meghan Timlin has been named the director of the Entrepreneurship and Business Academy at Kempsville High School and she is working tirelessly on the proposal for approval to the school board. If approved, we could see the first round of students come to Kempsville next year. Not only will the academy bring new students to our school, but new opportunities for community involvement.
As a school division, this year we rolled out a new strategic plan, "The Compass to 2020." The plan builds on the scaffolding set in motion by previous years' progress. We here at Kempsville are incredibly excited because the new strategic plan is right in line with some of the things we've been doing here to improve student learning. Not only are we a Technology Anchor School, but the Kempsville Advanced Learning Movement (KALM) was praised by Dr. Spence for its innovation. Kempsville staff and students made major strides toward academic achievement resulting in full accreditation for our building! We plan to continue our culture of growth and excellence here this year.
I look forward to getting to know you this year! You can contact me via email at [email protected].
